History
Tradition of reed-mace products reaches the end of the 17-th century. The century when the count Arnost from Valdstejn decided to establish a monastery in Mnichovo Hradiste and to invite monks of kapucínského order from Italy. They taught the local people the craft. At first people worked for them and later became independent.
There used to be lots of ponds and lakes around the town with high quality reed-mace vegetation. Hired labourers had to cut it before the spring time and further process it over the summer. The reed-mace processing never meant only weaving but also the whole technology of the material preparation.
